Privacy statement

1. GENERAL

Metaleuven (Metaleuven NV, with registered office at 3012 Wilsele, Aarschotsesteenweg 12, kbo-number 0425.154.859) has long been an established name in the Leuven area for numerous home, garden and kitchen appliances and a do-it-yourself range.

Metaleuven wants to be able to serve its customers even better, which is why Metaleuven launched Metashop, an online shop where customers can order efficiently and get the goods they want delivered quickly or collected quickly. Metaleuven's aim is to be able to provide a personalised service tailored to the customer.

To do this, Metaleuven is going to have to process personal data from its customers but Metaleuven makes it a big point to protect this data as much as possible and take into account the rights customers have under the law (including the famous European Regulation commonly referred to as 'GDPR').

2. WHAT PERSONAL DATA DOES METALEUVEN COLLECT?

When registering on Metashop, certain information has to be given to Metaleuven and this information is needed to provide a personalised offer and personalised service.

The information required by Metaleuven is all data about a customer's identity (name, first name and contact details) but also any VAT number (kbo number) as well as data about purchases made by customers (both online and in the branches).

Payments for purchases on Metashop are made online using the most common and secure payment methods, and for this purpose Metaleuven works with an external party that guarantees payment security. In the case of online payments by credit card, the customer must then of course also provide their credit card details but these details are then not collected or maintained by Metaleuven.

In addition to Metashop, Metaleuven will of course continue to sell its full range in the two branches and there Metaleuven uses camera surveillance, which is indicated at the entrance by an icon. The images from the cameras are also tracked, of course.

Metaleuven does not collect or process any sensitive personal data.

3. WHY DOES METALEUVEN COLLECT PERSONAL DATA?

In the first instance, Metaleuven naturally needs all the data necessary for customers to make purchases on Metashop and for Metaleuven to then deliver the purchased goods to the customers.

Because Metaleuven offers a personalised offer to its customers, based on various criteria, Metaleuven must therefore keep records of the purchases made by customers. After all, depending on these purchases, customers can enjoy (additional) discounts.

Data is thus collected and processed to execute agreements with customers.

When subscribing to the newsletter, the customer receives a newsletter or other information from time to time at the e-mail address provided by the customer. Naturally, the possibility is then provided to unsubscribe via a link at the bottom of the newsletter or the customer can request this by sending an e-mail to Metaleuven's customer service department:

Consent given by customers to receive the newsletter or other information can always be withdrawn (free of charge, of course).

Customers who have long subscribed to the newsletter and have never unsubscribed will of course continue to receive the newsletter. It is in the interest of Metaleuven and its customers to be able to keep abreast of interesting promotions, etc.

Images from the camera surveillance are kept to detect fraud and theft and it is therefore possible that these images are passed on to the police services or government agencies as part of an investigation.

4. HOW LONG DOES METALEUVEN KEEP THE DATA IT COLLECTS?

Because the data is needed to execute agreements with customers, Metaleuven has to keep the data for a reasonable period of time. After all, Metaleuven must take into account the statutory limitation period of 10 years for contractual discussions. Data on purchases and customers must therefore be kept for at least 10 years, and if discounts are granted on the basis of previous purchases, Metaleuven will also have to keep that data for 10 years after the last purchase by a customer.

Camera images will be kept for a period of 2 weeks.

5. HOW DOES METALEUVEN ENSURE THAT ITS CUSTOMERS' DATA IS SECURE?

Metaleuven guarantees the integrity, security and confidentiality of the personal data it collects and takes all necessary organisational and technical measures to secure the data. For example, data is stored on secure servers and access to this data is strictly limited to those employees who need the data for the purposes stated earlier in this statement.

6. DOES METALEUVEN SHARE ITS CUSTOMERS' DATA WITH OTHER PARTIES?

Metaleuven primarily collects and processes data itself but sometimes it is necessary to transfer data to other parties if Metaleuven needs to entrust certain services to other parties, such as:

  • partners of Metaleuven providing services at our request (e.g. carrying out home deliveries, courier services, repairs)
  • suppliers if there would be recalls of a certain product or if important information about a product has to be given to customers

Only the strictly necessary data are then communicated and Metaleuven then ensures to the maximum extent possible that those other parties also take all possible measures to process and maintain the data in a secure manner.

7. WHAT RIGHTS DO CUSTOMERS HAVE IN CONNECTION WITH THE PROCESSING OF DATA BY METALEUVEN?

Individuals can of course exercise all the rights granted to them by law (the right to information about the data processed by Metaleuven, the right to inspect it and to correct or delete incorrect or outdated data, the right to oppose the processing of the data, the right to oblivion and the right to have it transferred).

Customers can exercise these rights free of charge by submitting a query to Metaleuven's customer service department. Only in the case of excessively burdensome requests, Metaleuven can charge an administrative fee.

8. WHAT CAN CUSTOMERS DO IF THEY HAVE A COMPLAINT OR QUESTION?

The details of Metaleuven's customer service were provided earlier in this statement. If you have a complaint, you can also submit it to the Data Protection Authority (www.gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit.be). That is the new name of the former Privacy Commission. And, of course, you can always turn to the courts.

9. CAN METALEUVEN AMEND THE PRIVACY STATEMENT?

This privacy statement was last updated on 10 November 2022 and can be amended at any time. Customers are not actively informed of adjustments but the latest updated version can always be found on the website.
